Captains Blog Stardate 17.10.2013 – Away V. GCCGCC - star trek

GCC are a new Club to the Cradley League and to Colmers Farm Leisure Centre, which have installed new lights, so it’s not entirely yellow anymore, hoorah!  However, despite the fact that this wasn’t an Austin home match (Worcester club that used to play at Colmers Farm LC)  we were still forced to play with Yellow Plastic Shuttles.  Fun, ……… not!
Col Fisher & Angie got the match off to a fine start beating GCC’s first pair 21-4 in the first rubber of the night and from there it continued with Ashtons Mixed 2 winning 18-0 for the second time this season. Only the home team’s 2nd pair made it into double figures in any game all night but, to their credit, took a few games to 18.
Overall scores were 378/181 with strangely Alan ‘Casual’ Postans & Amy Steventon and Phil Buckley & Amie ‘Barbosa’ Spencer both registering scores 126-60, obviously the lead pair let the team down conceding an additional point to the opponents.
I wish the players at GCC a happy first season  in the Cradley Heath Badminton League, which is no doubt going to be a tough steep learning curve for them. Hopefully, they will benefit form the experience and grow stronger for next season. They do seem like a nice bunch of people.  Special mention to the lady on the third pair who injured her oblique and struggled through the pain barrier all night. (Update – the young lady in question who got injured is feeling better and would like to thank Angie ‘The White Night’ McNay for her concern & help last night).
Our next fixture is at home on a Wednesday against Frankley Bats in a couple of weeks when if all goes according to plan Mr Casual will be reunited with regular partner Miss KP Nuts and Luke Peters makes his debut alongside Amy Steventon.
