QBEC v. Ashton Mxd2 – Home Fixture

Shuffled pack comes up trumps against QBEC.

Captains Blog Stardate 12122013

Without the services of Tricia (socialising), Amie (unwell), Kate (working), Emma (working), Chloe (exams), Adam M (unresponsive) & Tim (Mens 1 match) Ashton’s Mixed 2 won 13-5 at home to QBEC.

QBEC Shuffled packThe pairs of Luke Peters & Amy Steventon and Angie McNay & Alan ‘Casual’ Postans won all their games with Angie & Alan just edging it in terms of conceded points, 88 to 84. Lauren Bickers & Col Fisher managed to win one rubber in their 4th game against the visitors second pair, ironically the pair who pushed the other two Ashton’s pairs closest, Luke & Amy going 23-21 against them.

QBEC were a nice friendly bunch which is something I had taken for granted until the visit of Frankly Bats earlier in the year.

I have tried to come up with nicknames for all the Mixed 2 squad, before we started playing I was going to nickname Lauren ‘Nurse’ since she was offering advice on a aching ankle, however that has been tossed away for I’m christening her ‘Rafa’ after the Spanish Tennis player, because she stands so far back. It’s not Clay Court Tennis! In any case I’m glad I was able to assist in her winning her first rubber in club Badminton well done Lauren onwards and upwards, but stand further forward 🙂 I was mostly glad to just be able to play tonight as I spent until 2 p.m. this afternoon in bed with with a migraine, the wonders of sleep and pain killers come highly recommended.

Only nicknames handed out so far have been ‘Nuts’ to Katie, ‘Casual’ to Alan, ‘Energizer Bunny’ to Tim, ‘Barbosa’ to Amie and now Lauren’s ‘Rafa’. I’m handing ‘Superstar’ to Luke at this point. I shall endeavour to Christen all as the season progresses.

We are now at the mid point of the season and have played every team in the division once, 3 home, 4 away. We have lost only one of those games, away at HCK1. The return against HCK1 at home and the visit to Frankley Bats will undoubtedly decide whether we win the division or not. At the halfway point we have won 97 rubbers, lost just 26 so I’m setting a target of bettering that in the remaining fixtures, I want to end the season with 200 rubbers 🙂
