Mixed 2 Won at home

Ashton Mixed 2 Won against HCK in second leg at home.

Captains Blog Stardate 06032016

I seemed to have played HCK teams allot this season, 4 mixed & 3 mens and I think I’ve had a different partner for everyone.  Tonight’s was Amy Steventon as squad rotation saw Alan Postans & Angie McNay rested Tim Hale & young Amy their replacements.  Phil Buckley was paired with Chloe Horne & Tim with Trisha Hatton.

We had won 12-6 on the corresponding fixture away so hopes were high for another big win.  And we managed this 16-2 the final score.  Two slip ups one from Trish & Tim in their fourth game.  And one from Amy & myself but significantly I feel after we had been sat off court for 45 minutes.  I have played as pair 2 most of the season for mens, and did so tonight.  At home you have two matches immediately then have to wait around for what seems an eternity for the 9th game of the evening.

We didn’t help ourselves all night, though we had only ever played together before at the Souths Staffs Tournament last fall.  The first games we won comfortably enough both 21-15 although we could have been dubbed “can’t serve, won’t serve” during those games.  The next we seemed to click and won at a canter 21-11 then got complacent to begin with but battled on to win 27-25, a defeat that seemed to knock the stuffing out of the HCK pair as Chloe & Phil ripped them to shreds 21-8 twice in their next game.  Hats off to Phil (who I warned to not be grumpy) & Chloe who came out on top in terms of rubbers 126-79, edging out Trish & Tim by 7 points (124-84).  The epic 27-28 and the complete collapse after the long break when Amy & I lost shockingly 11-21 meant our stats were bad 122-104!  We did redeem ourselves wining the final rubber of the night, although this was a bizarre affair I think both teams were into double figures by the time “can’t serve, won’t serve” finally won the games first point on their serve.

Won Trish & Tim completely destroyed the one HCK pair 42-14 for possibly but I strongly suspect (I’d have to check the other score sheets) the most emphatic victory of the season, thus far.

Alls well that ends well, 16-2 will do.  Our next match is away at QBEC a week on Monday, squad rotation sees Angie replace Amy & Alan replace Phil.  We won 13-5 at home when Lauren Bickers and myself only managed one rubber, lets see if we can’t better that!

Additional note; No Boxacise on Wednesday before a match on a Thursday, my legs are now refusing to function!
